SPI Convention
In 1991, Sports Philatelists International inaugurated an international convention, now held biennially, attended by sports and Olympic collectors from around the world. Conventions are held at American Philatelic Society national level shows around the United States. Attendees are treated to special outings, guest speakers from the sport or Olympic community, philatelic talks, and a bourse of dealers with material for every level of collector. In addition the conventions provide an opportunity for exhibitors to compete for national level awards with a view toward qualifying for international, including Olympic, exhibitions. A special SPI Best-of-Show trophy for the best Olympic or sports exhibit is awarded by the jury.
The next SPI convention will be held at SESCAL 2009 in early October at the Radisson at Los Angeles Airport Hotel, 6225 West Century Boulevard, Los Angeles, California. Further details will follow in late 2008. San Francisco's renowned WESTPEX will host us in 2011.
